Designer and cultural figure Peter Saville and the Science and Industry Museum (SIM) in Manchester are proud to launch a range of three glass laboratory-style flasks as part of their ongoing design collaboration; the SIM + Peter Saville Fernbach Flask is perfect for storing liqueur, wine or flowers.

With his use of the hazard sign, Saville summons up Manchester’s history as well as its postmodern identity. The Fernback flask's three diagonal stripes etched around its neck feature in Manchester’s coat of arms, representing its three rivers, the Irwell, the Medlock and the Irk. This three-lined image is also echoed across the worksites of Manchester at its industrial height, before more recently - and perhaps most famously - being appropriated by designer Ben Kelly as a key feature of iconic Factory club the Haçienda’s instantly recognisable dance floor. Produced to coincide with the tenth Manchester Science Festival the end of the city’s year-long role as European City of Science.

The SIM + Peter Saville Fernbach Flask measures 22.5cm tall x 19cm wide. Produced and etched in the North of England, the round flask comes complete with a natural silicone base-mat and stopper.

The round flask and gas jar flask are also available in the shop.
