I was deeply disappointed with this item as were my 8 year-old grandson, his mother, his aunt and his elder sister since none of us was able to put together a reliable circuit, using the imprecise and awkward method of assembly and the annoyingly fiddly materials. I shall never understand why anyone would imagine that two pieces of loose foil and two bits of bent wire were the ideal way to make a reliable and firm contact for electronics!
I realise that, when I bought the kit, there were only three reviews and though each gave it 5 stars; but all of them were written by the purchaser and none by the end user. And yes, I was also delighted with the nice big solid package and the speedy arrival — and dismayed by the contents which seems in no way to reflect the qualities I expected of a Science Museum product. I wonder whether anyone from the Museum has actually tried to use it.
If I could give this fewer than one star, I would; and I am about to return it to the Museum (though this is not as simple and easy as one has come to expect these days).
I was also going to complain that the kit ships without the essential battery but I see that a battery should be included in the box; there wasn't one in ours. In fact, on checking I see that on the website it states "1x 6LR61 (included) and in the instruction booklet it says that the battery is not included!
Oh, and if it's hard to assemble the parts correctly and securely, it's even harder to dismantle them and impossible to do…
