Terms & Conditions
TERMS & CONDITIONS OF SCIENCE MUSEUM GROUP ONLINE RETAIL
These terms and conditions (“Terms”) apply to the online sale of goods by us, SCMG Enterprises Limited (“SCMG Enterprises”), to you, the customer, via our website www.shop.sciencemuseum.org.uk (our “Website”).
About us
To shop on our Website, you must:
- be at least 16 years old,
- pay using a credit or debit card that we accept; and
- be authorised to use that credit or debit card.
We are only able to sell goods to you via our Website and on these Terms if you are a consumer. If you are a business looking to purchase wholesale, please contact us at wholesale@sciencemuseum.ac.uk for relevant information.
Placing an order
To place an order, please use your credit or debit card to pay for the product.
Once you have placed your order, you will receive an acknowledgement email confirming receipt. Please note that this acknowledgement is not our acceptance of your order. Acceptance will only take place when we email you to confirm the dispatch of the goods to you, at which point a contract is formed between you and us, subject to these Terms.
If you wish to change an item within an order, or edit a delivery address, please make any amendments to your basket before paying. Once an order is placed online, it cannot be amended and you would instead need to cancel the incorrect order as soon as possible by emailing info@sciencemuseum.ac.uk or calling 033 0058 0058. We are unable to accept order cancellations once the goods have been dispatched.
All orders are subject to availability and confirmation of the order price. If there is an issue with your order, we will contact you.
Product descriptions and prices
Care has been taken to ensure the accuracy of product descriptions, specifications, and prices on our Website. However, there may be occasional errors in the information we provide to you.
If we discover an error for any goods you have ordered, we will provide you with an explanation and a corrected offer as soon as possible. You will be given the option to cancel your order. If you cancel and you have already paid, you will receive a full refund. Any erroneous goods already dispatched should be returned to us and we will provide you with a freepost label to enable this.
The prices shown on our Website include VAT and exclude delivery fees. Delivery fees will be charged in addition. These will be clearly shown during the checkout process and included in the ‘Total Cost’ displayed for your order prior to payment.
Please note that, due to local laws and customs, certain products may not be available for you to order for international delivery, and this will vary from country to country. When browsing, please select your chosen delivery country when prompted to ensure that you are shown the products available for delivery in your country.
Delivery
We can accept orders for delivery within the United Kingdom and internationally. For more detail on the locations to which we can deliver and applicable fees, please visit our ‘Delivery’ page.
A range of delivery options are available to you. When ordering, you will be given the option to select a delivery method, and the fee for delivery will be shown at the checkout once you have entered your chosen method of delivery, prior to confirming your order. For more information on estimated delivery timeframes and fees, please visit our ‘Delivery’ page.
We work hard to try and meet delivery times but occasionally there may be delays for reasons outside of our control – for example, because of postal strikes, carrier logistics or bad weather. We will keep you updated if we anticipate delays to the delivery of your order. We can’t accept responsibility for delays outside of our control.
If there are any problems with your delivery, or if you have not received your order within 30 days of dispatch, please contact us by emailing info@sciencemuseum.ac.uk or calling 033 0058 0058.
If you are making an international order (i.e. any order delivered to a country other than the UK), you agree that you will be the importer. By placing an order you are instructing SCMG Enterprises to engage with a logistics provider to fulfil customs import procedures on your behalf. Before placing an order, it is your responsibility to check that the products you are planning to import comply with state and government import regulations, and that there are no local requirements or restrictions which may affect receipt of your order. If any customs requirements apply or charges are due, you agree to be responsible for arranging payment of these. SCMG Enterprises does not accept responsibility for payment of any customs charges and local taxes.
Payment
We accept payment via credit and debit card, including Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, Diners Club and Maestro. We also accept payment via Shop pay, Apple pay and Google pay.
Credit or debit card payments will be charged once your order is placed, and you receive an email confirmation of the order. The same applies to pre-orders - when an item is placed on pre-order, payment is taken immediately. When payment is taken from your card the transaction on your card statement will state "Science Museum Online Shop - SCMG Enterprises Ltd".
All transactions are taken in pounds sterling (GBP £). If your credit card is in any other currency, the rate of exchange will be that of your card issuer and you may be charged an international fee by them. We are not responsible for any additional fees your card issuer may charge.
Our online payment process takes place in a secure environment. For more information about card security, please visit our privacy policy.
If you require a VAT invoice, please send a request to the customer services team at info@sciencemuseumgroup.ac.uk quoting 'VAT invoice request' and your order number in the subject line.
Sale items and promotional offers
Occasionally we offer goods on sale or promotional offer when purchased online. Validity of promotional offers will vary depending on the delivery destination for the order. Sales and promotional offers are subject to change without notice, at our discretion.
For details of our current promotional offers, please visit our ‘Promotions’ page.
Discount codes cannot be used on sale items, and unless otherwise stated, offers may not be used in conjunction with each other. If multiple offer codes are used as part of an order, only the most recent offer will be applied and previous offers will be removed from your order. Purchases may be refused if abuse of promotion or discount codes is detected.
Unless damaged or faulty, items purchased within a promotional offer are only refundable if all items purchased within the offer are returned for refund. For more information, please visit our ‘Refunds’ page. Returns and exchanges
We hope you will be delighted with your purchase. However, if you change your mind, please return the goods to us in their original condition and packaging, with any labels still attached, and we will provide you with a refund. Returns should be made in accordance with our returns process, which is detailed on our ‘Returns, Refunds and Exchanges’ page.
Faulty and incorrect items
We regret that, very occasionally, items develop faults. For items that have developed a manufacturing fault within six months of purchase, please contact our online customer services team on + 44 0330 058 0058 (option 1, followed by option 4) or by emailing info@sciencemuseumgroup.ac.uk to arrange a replacement or refund. We usually cannot replace or refund faulty items purchased more than six months ago.
Please do not return items without first speaking to our Customer Services team for advice.
For more information on our returns and exchange processes, please see our ‘Returns, Refunds and Exchanges’ page.
Our responsibility for losses
We will compensate you for direct losses caused by us or our products. However, we are not responsible for losses you suffer which are:
- unforeseeable (i.e. it was not obvious that the loss would happen and nothing you said to us before we accepted your order meant we should have expected it);
- caused by an event outside of our control;
- avoidable (i.e. a loss you could have avoided by taking reasonable action, including following reasonable instructions for use); or
- business losses.
Ending the contract between us
We can end our contract with you and claim any compensation due to us if:
- you don’t make payment to us when it is due, and within 7 days of our reminding you that it is due;
- you don’t, within a reasonable time of us asking for it, provide us with the information, co-operation or access that we need to provide the goods to you; or
- you don’t, within a reasonable time, allow us to deliver the goods to you.
Complaints
We hope that you will be happy with your order and the goods received. However, if you need to make a complaint to us, you can contact us at + 44 0330 058 0058 or alternatively email info@sciencemuseumgroup.ac.uk.
We honour our legal duty to provide you with products that are as described to you on our website and that meet all the requirements imposed by law.

Any changes to your newsletter preferences may take up to 10 working days to be processed.
Other terms applicable to your contract with us
We use your personal data as set out in our privacy notice. Please find our privacy notice here.
Nobody else has any rights under this contract. These terms and conditions govern the contract between you and us. Nobody else can enforce it and neither of us will need to ask anybody else to sign-off on ending or changing it.
If a court invalidates some of this contract, the rest of it will still apply. If a court or other authority decides that some of these terms are unlawful, the rest will continue to apply.
Even if we delay in enforcing this contract, we can still enforce it later. We might not immediately chase you for not doing something (like paying) or for doing something you're not allowed to, but that doesn’t mean we can't do it later.
These terms are governed by English law and wherever you live you can bring claims against us in the English courts.
