The A3 class 4-6-2 locomotive number 4472 Flying Scotsman leaving London's King's Cross station, 1 May 1968 with The Flying Scotsman IA16. The photograph was taken on the fortieth anniversary of the first non stop run from London to Edinburgh, in 1928. Flying Scotsman is one of the most famous locomotives. It was built in 1923, by the London & North Eastern Railway's Doncaster works. It pulled the Flying Scotsman train from London to Edinburgh. In 1928, the Flying Scotsman completed its first non stop run to Edinburgh. The journey was 392 miles, the longest non stop journey in the world. The engine is now part of the National Railway Museum collection.From the Oxford Publishing Company or Railprint Collection.
